I firmly believe a brood mare is more than 50% of the foal equation.
I am very proud of the mares I currently have in my possession, being one of two mare bands in the US inbred to Wap's Spot 2. I am currently working on my third generation and I'm dedicated to helping preserve, concentrate and refine this bloodline. When you purchase a foal from Heronhaven, you are getting the end product of years of work, experience and careful thought. As any breeder knows, it's the throw of the dice...I've tried to eliminate as much of the gamble as I can. The stock I have produced speaks for itself.
Each of my mares was selected for her quality, type, temperament and pedigree. The handsome coat colors they often sport are simply the frosting on the cake. Many of these mares are own daughters of Wap's Spot 2 or Wap's Reflection with one mare being double bred. We are breeding athletes of the future with a close eye on temperament, mental balance, beauty and a lifetime of soundness.
I will not breed a mare with a problem, whether it be conformational, low fertility, flightiness, bad feet, or simply a poor mother. I won't use mares retired due to unsoundnesses which may be passed on to their foals.
Most of these mares I have bred and raised myself and often their dams and granddams as well...all are registered Appaloosas with little or no QH or halter blood...and no greying genes. This means no surprises...such as getting your new appaloosa sport horse foal home only to have it turn white in a year!
With only a few mares to deal with, each foal receives alot of personal attention from my husband and myself with occasional help from my now adult sons. Expect a halter-wise baby who is easily handled and wants to be your companion as well as a highly competitive show horse.

"Jazz" is a 16:2 hh dun snowcap mare with lots of uphill action, a big stride and an equally big heart of gold. "Jazz" is a full sister to Wap's Ballet Slippers - Grand Champion mare 2000- Belgium National Show.

Waps Nicely Dun (Wap's Reflection x Waps Tiger Lily)
"Nicely" is a 15:3 hh dun with characteristics mare. The very best conformed horse I ever bred. I can't fault her with a Microscope. Best moving horse I ever bred, too, with lots of smooth, round, uphill dressage type action, with natural, overstride. "Nicely" is a full sister to Wap's Little Demo - a winner on the line and sucessful show mare. Also a full sister to Wap's Chino, an up and coming dressage horse now in San Diego.
