About us...
Heronhaven is a small, privately run operation located near Pennsylvania State University, State College, Pa.. Our place is not large or showy, but the horses we raise are. I personally have been involved with showing, training and breeding horses since I was a child. Consequently, I have over thirty five years experience in the wonderful world of Appaloosas. ( I was even fortunate enough to have ridden Wap's Spot 2's sire, the late, great Acorn's Thistle Britches!) Thanks Peggy and Kelly!!
Having spent so much time in the saddle and in the ring on horses I have raised and trained, I know what it takes to make a good competition horse, and I know what kind of horse will be able to cut it mentally. These are the kinds of horses I can offer to you.
I am currently working on my third generation of family-raised performance appaloosas and have very high hopes for each year's foal crop. Over time, I have put together a very correct group of mares which are now being bred to my young stallion, Wap's Pilatus HH, an own son of Wap's Spot 2 from his last foal crop. All of these mares are own daughters of either Wap's Spot 2 or Wap's Reflection. I had spent years of researching stallions before I chose this group of bloodlines. I feel these horses are, by far, some of the finest sporting horses in the US today; they have a strong record for producing phenomenal top level sport horses, that just happen to be Appaloosas. The quality and easy temperament are the best I have encountered. Many thanks to the staff at JG for their abundant help and support over the years...
These horses are bred with the size, movement and conformation to be competitive within the highest levels of competition while maintaining the "best friend" quiet temperament capable of being your one horse you use for everything. Combine that with traditional appaloosa hardiness, and you've really got something. Most well-bred horses from these sires are breeding champions as youngsters and go on under saddle to successful, lengthy careers as rated hunters, jumpers, eventing mounts or dressage horses, then return home to productive breeding lives. With my close intimate knowledge of our mares and their breeding backgrounds, I'll try to help take the guesswork out of buying a foal.
Wap's Spot 2 passed away on November13, 2001...each year that we were fortunate enough to have foals sired by him was a gift in itself. He maintained a 100% conception rate right up until the end of his life. What a horse...I've never seen a sire that could produce like that...even when bred to very ordinary mares... Astounding. I feel it is an honor to own the horses I have that descend from this horse, and feel a strong responsibility to maintain the high quality and conformation this line is known for.
