One thing motorsports have in common with horses is that total heart and soul attitude that separates the professional from the hobbyist. Both my sons have gone in their separate directions, now. Horses are not their "thing" these days, but they carry the base lessons learned from horses in their current lives and professions. My oldest son was dating a TB jockey, who invited him to go riding. You can imagine what that was like... Lo and behold, she realized he could handle a really big horse and ride...with confidence... even though he hadn't been on a horse in YEARS... That fearless attitude, hang on no matter what, sense of humor, and a willingness to try different strategies other than the norm... They go together, no matter what you pursue in life.
The horses have always been a blessing in many more ways than the boys realize.... (*I love you both and hope you appreciate the gifts farm life gave you...)
We've always been a family "on the go" and I get a big kick out of watching my two sons and husband duke it out on the track against each other. Ron has tried and tried and just can't beat Kip. Even when he lends Kip his own cars to race. Yes, he's pissed... I suppose he shouldn't be, no one else can beat Kip, either. When my MR2 is back together I'll get back into it again...(probably get my a** handed to me on a platter)
My eldest Son...
Kip "Terrifying passengers requires talent"Kilmer - MR2 driver extraordinaire
(slowly being dragged into adulthood, kicking and screaming the whole way)
It CAN be terrifying to ride with this guy. I know more than a few people who flat out refuse to get in a car with him - ever again.
...Kip's 1988 Supercharged MR2...

Bigger pulley on supercharger, TRD header, Apexi exhaust, headwork, other fun stuff...it's quick...

Its so fast, Kip faints from the excitement!!!

Ooopsie...130 mph is a little hard on an engine running a bit lean...
It WAS quick until this....

Time to call the hook....(good point, Ron, 130 mph with snow on the ground?)

His initial MR2, 1988 Supercharged - autocrosser...(now it's MINE)
Yes, he is sliding that car completely sideways past those cones...on purpose...to make time for the next set. He and his brother both learned to drive on really marginal tires, etc. (read that BALD). That photo is a good example...Shouldn't have to slide that much at autocross! When my sons finally got the good stuff...they really knew what to do with it. With the help of Mom's credit card, we put Falken Azinas and some decent shocks on this car. At the last event he competed this car in, Kip missed fastest overall time of the day at our local autocross by 3/100 of a second with this old Toyota he found in a barn! Bone stock except for some new shocks and tires, not even the high horsepower import and domestic cars equipped with racing slicks and performance mods galore could touch him, and those club members had some primo machinery.
They were a little confused about being beat by a 19 yr old kid in a 16 yr old clapped out car : )
A couple of the guys were so impressed by that car's performance, they went to the local salvage yard and found what was left of a junked MR2 we had been buying spare parts off of, bought it, hauled it out of there and showed up at the track with it a few weeks later! We had a big smile from that ...
We're very fond of those MR2s...and had alot of luck with them. They aren't for everybody as it takes a little getting used to to really drive those midrear engine cars...Kip is very good with them. He's taken his red one to a couple of drift events to the amazement of those present. One event in Texas let him compete there for free as they couldn't believe they were seeing an MR2 drift. Working on them isn't the easiest either, as everything is shoehorned behind the door pillars. You really get spoiled by the driveability and handling of the MR2. Makes you alot pickier when you buy a different model car and realize how much modification you need to do to approach that level of handling...

Kip also has a very nice Nissan 240 for drifting, with a Silvia front end swap.
(I call this car "the Great Pumpkin")
He does not find that amusing....
He has made a few mods to it including an adjustable set of coilovers, very tuned exhaust, new engine/tranny. Another quick swap as they bought the car on a Thursday night. Started the work on a late Friday night?
Had it at the track on Sunday...How in the world do they do that...
It's for sale BTW - Coilovers, carbon fiber hood, lowered a bit, new engine, tranny, interior, 5 speed,

Big Alex nearly destroys the Silvia with his Mom's Pathfinder...The hand of God reaches down and protects the drift machine...
It's for sale

Boy, that almost sucked.....

"You gave a good run while drifting but then your muffler ended up on the
ground.

Of course, people only post the "exciting mistakes" stuff on Youtube...
Mikecom32 (2 hours ago)
Hahaha That was good fun, you really tore it up Saturday man!
driver42484 (19 hours ago) That was

thank god I got it stopped haha
Do you have anymore footage?
plasmeh (18 hours ago) I have some
footage of you I'm uploading for you,
I'll let you know when it's up. I also have some pictures I'll send your way
360 save in the Silvia at Carlisle
Kinda gives you an idea of how he can drive...still problems with the power steering hiccup...

Kip's "Philosophy of Life..."
Yes, he's my Son, too...
Xander"Love those Drift Machines"Fong
Can't borrow the Mazda since he brought it back with feathered tires
(...at least HE brought it BACK, Kip... Mom)

(Okay, I confess, I mail-ordered Xander and had him smuggled in via Japan in the trunk of a Miata...terrified by the sight of daylight and his new parents...can't blame him...LOL)
Xander's 1986 Toyota Corolla GTS - or AE86...Trueno...Hachi Roku...etc.

Xander and Big Alex foolin' around at the oval

Basket O' Trueno - Would you believe the car below is this same car? They had this on the road running in a week...working on it only on the weekends. Spiffed it a bit later. Engine swap from stock 4ag to a 4agze. Fun car. I like driving it myself...

We bought this car in Miami, Florida. As a last hurrah road trip for the boys before Kip joined the Army, Xander and I bought this car and I stuck the boys on a train headed for Miami from Pennsylvania. They picked up the car and drove up the coast to Orlando where they boarded the car train which took them and the AE86 to Washington DC. Drove it on in from there. Remember that. Much cheaper than shipping, and alot more fun. It was only a total of around $400 to get it home that way and they had an awesome adventure to remember...I believe its more important to buy experiences instead of material things...
*The trip home was BEFORE they gutted it.

Full "custom interior" of course...

The Trueno required a few mods before Xander was happy with it. 32 way adjustable coilovers, supercharged 4agze, modified head, all the little goodies...

First steps included bashing the front "batmobile bumper" off of it while drifting...
1 Custom Rim
Then he added this bitchin'yellow paint job...

Obviously, this car will be a work in progress for some time. Cosmetics will be the last to get attended to.

They worked out a deal with the local tire shops to "use" their old tires to drift on.
Didn't want their good tires to look like this.....
Some footage of Xander drifting this bad boy from inside the car : PROMO State College Grill and Drift
Also some clips of him speaking "generic" Asian
And why is it you never hear about what they did to your vehicles when they borrowed them until you see it pop up on YouTube?
OOOOhhhh the memories....
Here we have Xander on the first day he got his learner's permit. He's sitting in my "primo machine" ...1988 Volvo 240 wagon. See how thrilled he is? LOL
Hang on. Its a monster...Actually this thing is soooooo slow.
I liken it unto driving a parade float...
It was even slower when this pic was taken as it had a few adjustments needed.

...We bought this car for $300. Right place, right time. (as shown by Vanna White)
Still daily driving it 5 yrs later. (I love this car) I've even hauled hay in it. We have over 315,000 miles on it now... Runs beautifully. Great highway car. Still has the original clutch in it...(and its starting to feel like it.)
Gotta love those old Volvos....

Just don't lend them to your kids - after restoring them to the tune of thousands of dollars...like this poor woman did. Nice going...Andre...
That's not mine...Thank God...How the heck do you hit a giant bright yellow frontloader? He impaled this beautiful old 240 on the bucket.

What are you going to tell your mom??????
(I think you'll have to move to Mexico and change your name....)

Ever seen one of these chop top Volvos? Commisioned by Volvo from the Italian Coachworks - Bertone...believe they had a production run of around 5,000 worldwide. 2000 made in '79...10% of which had manual trannys...this is one of them:
Newest addition to the local Volvo fleet - 1979 Volvo 262C Bertone

*where do they find this stuff?????
Nice story behind this car...and it also looks alot nicer since we cleaned it up and reconditioned the leather interior. Project in the works to restore...
General consensus is that you must wear an Italian black suit with a white tie and fedora while driving. Tommy gun essential...thugs optional...
And here we have Ron's hot ride.....
Oh wait, I mean the OTHER hot ride ...
Ron "I'm Fine" Bertothy - Probably the Best Husband in the world...
Pretty good
driver too...
Adores
the horses....
Ron's 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata MX-5
We love this car... Between Ron, Xander, alcohol, and the internet...they bought a few goodies and boosted this car's performance into the truly fun zone. They installed a much larger intercooler, bigger downpipe and exhaust, redid the intake, added a boost controller and some electronic gizmos....

(I always say never drink and drive the information superhighway. Especially with your step sons bending your ear. End up broke everytime...)
Speaking of sons bending your ear...Ron drove into town to buy BRAKE PADS? for his MR2. Kip was working for the Mazda dealer at the time, and Ron had to see this unusual MX-5 Kip was raving about. After a Kip inspired test drive and spiel, Ron just had to buy it. Told Ron it was a "chick magnet". Came home with this car and NO BRAKE PADS! Started dating me shortly thereafter...Kip was right!
"Yeah, ...I'm SO glad I bought this..."

Kip loves to pick on Ron's driving...Drew this memorial to him.
Other Local Drivers More to come...send me your pics!
Big Alex "How many engines can I blow up?" Krishchyunas
~ Fearless Leader of the local Russian racing crowd ~
(Don't have a clue how to pronounce his name)

Alex's constantly modified (sometimes on purpose) Nissan 240
Optional oil puddle package...

One really hot car...

Alex has been drifting forever in State College and has been successful in competition...winning with a stock 240. The guy can really drive. He's so relaxed and laid back behind the wheel, you'd swear he didn't have a pulse. His 240 has gone under the knife many times, added a turbo set up, different diff, 20 million engines, etc. I think this car finally burned down for the last time after a smack at the local oval. Have to find some pics of his new ride...
He's also the star of the vid pic barely missing the Silvia in
his Pathfinder

There are videos of him all over YouTube...including a bunch he made himself. I have to talk him into posting more of his video as he has gold sitting in that camera...including terrific footage of him blowing up another engine near Beaver Run in Pittsburgh.
PUT SOME OIL IN THE DAMN THINGS!!!
FCS3 Rain Drift - Alex's old RX-7
Why we call him "Big Alex"
"Hell is that way...get going...."
(Actually, he'd never say anything like that. He's just one really nice guy....)

Welding - the easy way. No wonder these guys work so fast....

(sorry Lonnie! You looked so professional there I had to put you in...LOL)
That is Lonnie's 280 Z undergoing construction...
Lonnie Silago has been a Godsend in that he has often allowed the use of his very fun garage for the guys to work on their cars in a convenient place. Serious "decorating" has made it a more comfortable and homey place to be.
"Uh...yeah...I just got finished with the new motor for the Trueno...should be awesome...I hope..."

Objective: Use RX7 to make Saab Turbo loud, Outcome: GREAT SUCCESS!
